No discussion of bodybuilding would be complete withoutaddressing anabolic steroids and, just as important, theirso-called alternatives.

Barely a day goes by that you don't hear about yet anotherwell-known athletic exposed as a user of steroids. Use ofsteroids for the purpose of bodybuilding or other sports relatedenhancement is illegal in the United States.

Anabolic steroids are considered a "controlled substance" andany unlawful use is punishable by law. Period. We won't discussthis further here.


Unfortunately, there are a disreputable few who have managed tofind other chemicals that perform in a similar way but are not"technically" anabolic steroids.

This is very dangerous practice. Some of those alternativesinclude prescriptions, veterinary, investigational, unapproveddrugs and some dietary supplements.

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Policies that rid Maine high schools of sugary drinks seem to have had little impact on teenagers' overall intake of sugar-laden beverages, according to a new study.

as dietary supplements can be very dangerous asthey are regulated as foods instead of drugs. Because of this,there is no information to substantiate their use bybodybuilders nor any data on short or long term effects.

It is very easy to be defrauded by some of these so-calledsupplements. They can make claims that lead the bodybuilder tobelieve that they will accomplish miracles lie building muscle,promoting testosterone and so on.

The truth is they do not.

In fact the government conducted a 10 year study and collectedmore than 3,000 drug samples over the "black market."

What they found was that many of the samples were not steroidsat all, but other potentially more dangerous, prescriptiondrugs.

The sad thing is that many of these are popular among teenagers.

Here is a list of some potential health effects of drugs andother substances-ranging from the mildest to the mostsevere-used as alternatives to anabolic steroids:

As you can see, it's just not worth putting your health at riskfor the chance to gain a few more pounds of muscle.

It's much healthier to take a long-term and natural approach toincreasing your muscle mass and strength.

If you train heavy and intense and then eat supportively,there's no need for steroids to even come into the picture.

As far as supplements go, stick with what's safe and proven towork. Protein, creatine, and glutamine are 3 safe and effectivesupplements for building muscle.

If you train and eat right, there's no need to put your healthin jeopardy.
